Acton Scott Fun
We had a fantastic day at Acton Scott because we had a tour around the farm, fed a lamb and made straw pictures. The Shire Horses were enormous! Their hooves were huge. If you are a member of Homework Club you can go to exciting places too!! By Ethan

What we did at Acton Scott!
We watched the Victorian lady demonstrate how they made butter in the olden days. The blacksmiths made horse shoes for horses. We had the chance to meet farm animals that they kept in the Victorian times. The Shire horse was called Clumper. We met Clumper before he went to plough the fields! We created straw pictures made out of real wheat. We milked a fake cow. Mooo! We saw some of the working machines they used in Victorian times. We had a try at grinding the wheat. Victorian children were taught in the school house. They wrote on chalk boards. If they did anything naughty it was written down in a book and they were whipped with a cane! We enjoyed spending time with all our friends from Homework Club. We looked at the house where the farmer and his wife lived. The Victorians made their own bricks in an oven. |

Acton Scott Historic Working Museum was very fun. I saw lots of Victorian animals and how they used to work in Victorian times! My favourite bit was when we got to stroke a Shire horse called Clumper. Later on we saw Clumper working in the field! Acton Scott was named after the Acton family, who live in Acton Hall. The family has lived there for 700 years! We also found out that Acton Hall is the oldest brick building in Shropshire. There also was a program about it not so long ago! We had a tour and we got to grind corn for the chickens to feed on. This was called “Kibbling”. It was very hard work and certainly not as easy as it looked! In the picnic area sheep where free and the turkeys where very big! After that we watched a Dairy maid making butter in a butter churn. After that we headed to the gift shop I brought a toy rabbit a postcard and a plant of parsley. Then we went home on the bus! |

This is an account by one of Homework Club's brand new members, about his first impressions of the club! On my first day at the club, the author Luke Temple came to visit. I found this exciting because I had never met an author before and it felt wonderful to meet one! I enjoyed listening to him speak about what he does at home and his lifestyle. I also found it interesting listening to how he makes up the stories which he writes. I liked watching his video because when I was little I thought that authors only wrote stories, but I now know that they have a normal life like us! I liked doing his work sheet, because I found it interesting learning about the characters within his book such as 'Ben' and 'Harriet'. My first impressions of Homework Club were "Amazing", because I don't like doing my Homework at home, because it gets on my nerves, but at Homework Club I have more support to help me - and it's more fun! I am going to come back to Homework Club in the future because I enjoyed doing my Homework with my friends and the fun activities we get to do afterwards. By: Luke Wall |
